What these lists are
Nationwide public holidays. A day the country's workers are, as a rule, not expected to be at work. Observances, commemorative days and half-days are left out, because a planner that counts them tells you to book a flight on a working Tuesday.
National only. This is a country-level planner: it carries one calendar per country and no sub-national ones for anywhere. Where a country's holidays genuinely vary internally, a day is included when most of the country observes it and left out when it is not — so what you get is the calendar a national employer would publish, not a local one.
Dates that depend on a moon sighting move. Eid, Diwali, Vesak and Nyepi are set by observation or by a lunar calendar, and can shift by a day even after a government publishes them. Countries with such dates are marked above.
Your employer's list is the one that counts. Most companies observe fewer days than the government gazettes, and pick different optional ones. If yours publishes a list, the Company Holiday Optimizer plans around that instead — which is the only way to get an answer that is right for you specifically.
Where the dates come from
India's list is transcribed from the DoPT gazetted holiday notification and the US list from the Office of Personnel Management's federal holiday schedule. Both predate the rest and are hand-checked.
The other 45 countries are compiled from Google's published public-holiday calendars and cross-checked against Nager.Date, with every disagreement between the two reviewed by hand before shipping. The compiler is in the repository, so the lists can be regenerated when a government publishes its next year.
